The rise in mail theft and check fraud is more than anecdotal. In a report to the U.S. House of Representatives, the United States Postal Service noted that reports of high-volume mail theft from mail receptacles increased 139% between FY2019 and FY2023, driven largely by organized criminal groups targeting checks and other financial mail. These networks continue to evolve, making electronic transfers one of the safest ways to move funds.

Making Electronic Deposits to Your Foundation Accounts

Did you know you can also make deposits electronically? ACH transfers are a convenient and secure option. Through our Payment Portal, you can submit your deposit information and indicate which fund should receive the contribution, helping us ensure your deposit is processed quickly and accurately.

For deposits of $100,000 or more, we recommend sending funds by wire transfer. Before initiating any wire transfer, please call our office to verify the current wire instructions. Never rely on previously saved instructions or wire information received by email alone. A quick phone call can help protect your organization from increasingly sophisticated fraud attempts.

Mail Theft is Theft

It’s a crime to steal mail. If your church is the victim of mail theft, it’s critical to report this to the authorities:

• USPIS
• Your local police department

Quick and thorough reporting makes it more likely that the perpetrator will be caught and any stolen funds will be returned.
