A church’s Board of Trustees plays a critical role in its legal status, operations, and the care and maintenance of its property. We get questions from time to time about the role of a trustee, so we worked with both of the Conference Treasurers in our area to create these video guides. Please choose the video with the treasurer from your conference. Download an outline of the video by using the buttons below each video.

One other question we often get from Trustees of local churches is about who has responsibility and authority for managing planned gifts. If your church is the beneficiary of a legacy gift, such as a bequest or trust, the charge conference is the authoritative body to approve reception, management, and dispersal of such funds and/or the income generated by them.  The Trustees or another group designated by your church’s charge conference, such as an Endowment or Memorials Committee, may be responsible for receiving and administering a legacy gift.  The highest priority for any church receiving such a gift is to implement the will and intent of the donor.  Churches are to invest these gifts in accordance with the terms of the will or trust, under the authority of the charge conference, and with the guidance of the Book of Discipline and Social Principles.
